Kernel of a Linear MapJądro przekształcenia liniowego

Definition. Let \( V \) and \( W \) be vector spaces over a field \( \mathbb{K} \) and let \( T \colon V \to W \) be a linear map. The kernel (null space) of \( T \) is the set of all vectors of \( V \) that \( T \) sends to the zero vector of \( W \):

$$ \ker T = \{\, v \in V : T(v) = 0_W \,\} . $$

Visualization

Take \( V = W = \mathbb{R}^2 \) and \( T(x) = Ax \), where the entries of the matrix \( A = \begin{bmatrix} a_{11} & a_{12} \\ a_{21} & a_{22} \end{bmatrix} \) are set with the sliders. The left panel shows the domain with the kernel in red, the right panel shows the codomain with the image of the grid. Everything red on the left lands on the single red point \( 0 \) on the right. Move \( x \) onto the red line and \( T(x) \) collapses to zero.

Definicja. Niech \( V \) i \( W \) będą przestrzeniami liniowymi nad ciałem \( \mathbb{K} \) i niech \( T \colon V \to W \) będzie przekształceniem liniowym. Jądrem przekształcenia \( T \) nazywamy zbiór wszystkich wektorów przestrzeni \( V \), które \( T \) przeprowadza na wektor zerowy przestrzeni \( W \):

$$ \ker T = \{\, v \in V : T(v) = 0_W \,\} . $$

Wizualizacja

Domain \( V \): the grid, the kernel (red) and the vector \( x \).
Dziedzina \( V \): siatka, jądro (czerwone) i wektor \( x \).
Codomain \( W \): the image of the grid and \( T(x) \). The whole kernel is sent to \( 0 \).
Przeciwdziedzina \( W \): obraz siatki i \( T(x) \). Całe jądro przechodzi na \( 0 \).
